Billy Schmidt Memorial Foundation
The Billy Schmidt Memorial Foundation was created in honor of William “Billy” Schmidt, who tragically lost his life at just 22 years old on June 6, 2026.
That evening, Billy and his friends went to Station Bar & Grill in South Philadelphia to watch the NBA Finals. While walking home later that night, Billy was followed by two individuals and became the victim of a robbery over his phone. He was shot across the street from his home and later passed away at the hospital.
Billy’s life was so much bigger than the way it ended. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, neighbors, classmates, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. Billy was a senior at Penn State University studying journalism and had a passion for sports, with hopes of building a career in the sports industry.
Billy lived a full and active life. He loved going to the gym, playing in a recreational basketball league, selling baseball cards online, playing video games with his friends, and spending weekends playing pool and going out with his friends and his sister. He brought people together and left a lasting impact on so many lives.
The Billy Schmidt Memorial Foundation was created to ensure that Billy’s memory and the impact he had on others continue to live on. Our mission is to give back to families in need and provide scholarships to future Penn State students, helping others pursue their dreams and creating opportunities in Billy’s name.
Through the support of our family, friends, and community, we hope to turn an unimaginable loss into a legacy of generosity, opportunity, and kindness.
Billy may no longer be with us, but his name, his story, and the love he gave to so many will continue to make a difference.
